For adoptive families, foster parents, and professionals
Adoptive Parent Preparation: Core classes to prepare parents for adoption
April 4th 4-9pm and April 5th from 9am to 4pm
June 6th 4-9pm and June 7th from 9am to 4pm
August 1st 4-9pm and August 2nd from 9am to 4pm
Adopting the Older Child: Focuses on parenting the child with special needs. Topics included are: history information, discipline and behaviors, abuse, commitment, and the successful adoptive family. Required of anyone adopting through the Waiting Child Program. Presented by Melanie Tem. Classes yet to be scheduled.
International Adoption Part I - Cultural and Ethnic Sensitivity and Adoption: Understanding your child’s cultural and ethnic background, how it relates to your family, and cultural sensitivity while traveling and when you arrive home. Families need to complete homework assignments before attending this class. Contact your program coordinator for more information. Presented by Linda Donovan, Marcia Baird, and Rebecca Harris. April 24th from 6:30 to 8:30pm
International Adoption Part II – Adjustments and Transitions: Life in an orphanage and how it affects development, how to transition your child into your home and family. June 26th from 6:30 to 8:30pm
International Adoption Part III – The Adoptee Experience: A panel of adoptees describe their experiences and share their stories. May 22nd from 6:30 to 8:30pm
