FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I choose the children I will care for?
- We work with you to try to find the children that will work best with your family. Foster parents usually choose a specific age range, gender, and behaviors they are comfortable dealing with.
Can I adopt a foster child?
- If the child cannot return home or live with relatives, foster parents may be considered as a potential adoptive placement.
Do I get “paid” for doing foster care?
- You will receive a monthly reimbursement that helps cover the cost of the child’s food, clothing and other basic needs.
What if I have problems after the child is placed in my home?
- Most problems can be solved with help from your caseworker or other support services. If major problems cannot be solved, other living arrangements for the child may be necessary.
How long do children usually stay in a foster home?
- It varies with each child, but the average stay is 1 year.
I’m interested in working with pregnant/parenting teens, physically or mentally disabled children or children with medical needs. Can Adoption Alliance find placements like that?
- Absolutely. We work with all of the Denver metro-area counties to find the type of child you are interested in.
Who pays for the child’s medical care?
- Medicaid covers the cost of doctor and dental visits. It may also cover necessary mental health services or the County will cover the cost.
I’m not ready to be a full-time foster parent, but can I be involved in another way?
- Yes, you can be a mentor, provide short-term emergency care, provide short-term respite care, or volunteer. Contact us today for more information.
