| Important Information for Colorado families If you live in Colorado there are many things you need to know about adopting under Colorado law! Each state has their own adoption laws and requirements. Colorado is considered an "agency state" which means that you must work with a public (social services) or private licensed agency in order to complete your adoption. There are also specific requirements for Parent Preparation Education. For international adoption you must complete 24 hours of training on specified topics. Adoption Alliance is a full service licensed adoption agency in Colorado. We can provide you with all of your Colorado services. Frequently Asked Questions I have an agency in another state and they told me I just need a home study. What's the deal? In Colorado, you must complete parent preparation education in addition to the home study. Adoption Alliance assists you with your immigration approval and also requires families to have post-placement services after they come home with a child. But I've heard that post-placement isn't necessary. Why do you require it? Studies have shown that families adjust better if they have support. We will make post-placement visits and refer you to any needed services or assistance. We also help you complete your Colorado court validation. This will provide you with a new Colorado birth certificate for your child and record your adoption in the Colorado courts. It ensures additional legal protections for your family, and may be necessary for your child to become a U.S. citizen. I want to adopt from a country that you don't work in. How can I do that? If you are interested in adopting from a country other than those for which Adoption Alliance has direct programs, you can select your own out-of-state placing agency. This gives you the possibility of adopting from any one of a number of countries, and you can work with very experienced and reputable agencies that are located outside of Colorado. Adoption Alliance will then write your home study, provide you with all of the pre-adoption preparation required by the State of Colorado and help you file your Immigration documentation. We will also network with your selected out-of-state agency to make sure you have all of the required documentation from us.
